La, la, la, la, la, la bamba!

La-la-la-la-la-la Bamba!!
A Latin Approach to Growing Your Business

Cogito, ergo sum: "I think, therefore I am." Makes sense really. It is stating that if someone is wondering whether or not he or she exists, that is in and of itself proof that he or she DOES exist. But this foundation of Western Philosophy is also known in the sales industry as "Fake it till you make it," or in the modern sub-culture, a foundation that the movie "The Secret," is based on... the principle that if we want something, we can manifest it by simply believing it to be so.

As hokey as it sounds, it holds some merit. To illustrate the malleability of the human brain, an Oxford University neuroscientist, Dr. Greenfield, cites a startling Harvard Medical School study involving volunteers who could not play the piano. The participants were divided into three groups: the first group was given intensive piano practice for five days, the second was taken into an identical room with an identical piano but had nothing to do with the piano, and the third group was taken into an identical room with an identical piano and were told that to just imagine they were practicing piano exercises for the next five days.

The resulting brain scans were extraordinary. As expected, the brains of those who only sat in the same room as the piano had not changed at all. Equally unsurprising was the results that those who had performed the piano exercises saw marked structural changes in the area of the brain associated with finger movement.

But what was truly shocking was that the group who had merely imagined doing the piano exercises saw remarkable changes in brain structure that were almost as pronounced as those that had actually taken the piano lessons. “The power of imagination is not a metaphor, it seems; it's real, and has a physical basis in your brain,” said Greenfield.

When I read this story, I was impressed and ready to put it into action. I play the guitar... well, I TRY to play the guitar. My first Christmas with Marty back in 2001, he bought me a guitar. It was a dream come true, as I had wanted to play the guitar all my life. Interestingly enough, teaching myself was going well for about six months - until I hit a huge snag and realized I was stuck without true instruction. So instead of persevering, I hung up my guitar. Each year since then, I pull my guitar out of its case and try to pick up where I left off. Each time I have to work around the clock to build up my calluses, stretch my fingers, and relearn all the notes.

These past three or four weeks I have been at that point. In fact, as I type this, I am struggling to hit the letters on the keypad due to the enormous water blisters that engulf all my left digits. This month, as I sat there struggling to play, something pretty depressing struck me. I realized that it had been almost seven full years since I received my guitar. If I had continued playing all those years and pushing forth when I would hit a snag - I would probably be living my dream... being able to play the guitar.

In reading the article about Dr. Greenfield, I decided to try something different in my strategy in learning to play. When my fingers would throb and the muscles in my hands would be screaming in pain - instead of stopping entirely, I would sit and imagine that my fingers were still playing. I would imagine my fingers effortlessly reaching that ever-elusive F-sharp. I would visualize my fingers making barre chords without strain, and I would imagine that it was in perfect pitch... and it worked!! After only a few weeks of painful practice coupled with visualizations, I am playing better than I ever played before - and enjoying it more.

What does this have to do with your business?

Your mind is an amazing piece of engineering - but you must exercise it to gain expected results. If you fear doing presentations, visualize them over and over again and imagine them going off without a hitch. If you fear speaking in public - visualize them being successful and rewarding. When your brain starts saying things like, "You don't have time for this" or "You won't ever make money doing this," stop it in its tracks! Visualize yourself successful, imagine that you are making time and enjoying yourself, visualize yourself making money, visualize your dreams manifesting ... and stop beating yourself up with negativity!

Cogito, ergo sum... I think, therefore I am.

Say to yourself:

I am beautiful.
I am deserving.
I am successful.
I am happy.
I am wonderful.
I am kind and generous.
I am healthy.
I am loved.
I am special.

Meanwhile... CARPE DIEM, MY FRIENDS!! :-)

Embrace Who You Are!

One of Marty and my favorite places to dine at is a grubby little hole in the wall here in town. They serve Ma and Pa home-cooked meals. The owners are in the business simply for the joy of it, we know they aren't making big bucks, and we know they are more concerned about the service, the quality of that service, and the taste of their food, than the vanity of fancy ambiance. And that is just A-Okay with us!

I bring up this point, because many of you want to send out email campaigns to existing and prospective customers, but you stall out because you don't know how to make it look fancy and expensive and comparable to all those high profile companies that send you emails marketing products.

Well... STOP THINKING YOU HAVE TO BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHO YOU ARE!!

Look, truth is - you are a sole proprietor. You are just a little guy! Face this fact and you will begin to feel a huge load of weight come off your shoulders.

If any of you subscribe to the email from "Dying to Look Good" you know what I am talking about. It is plain - green and white. Nothing fancy. But the content is relevant and important to you, so you read it. You know she is just one person working hard to make a living. You don't hold her to the same expectations of say Amazon.com or a major retailer.

So - why do you have it in your head that YOUR customers and prospects wouldn't understand that about YOU?

There is NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING HUMBLE! Repeat that in your head over and over. In fact, humility coupled with sincerity is one of the most magificent things you have to offer others! Use it to your advantage!

An example (a rather silly example) of this, is way back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth and I worked at McDonalds. I actually worked my way to management and stuck out McDonald's for a five year ride in my early life. However; sometimes, even in my 4th year, I would just have one of those days where I was brain dead and would forget something. I would look up at a customer and apologetically say, "I'm so sorry, it is my first day."

You laugh! I did - and it worked like a charm. Of course I would wink to let them know I was just kidding, but it was in that initial second that they heard me say I was new, that they would forget to be mad at me. After that - it was smooth sailing. (And unlike many of my counterparts, I never had a milkshake thrown on me!)

Everyone on the face of this earth understands the humility of being new at something. Everyone has tried to ride a bike for the first time, had their first day of school, their first day on a new job, their first public speech, their first kiss...

It is within this understanding that comes instant compassion and empathy. They relate. It is through this relation that a common denominator is laid. A wonderful bond can form when 'like meets like.'

This is why I tell all new reps to play it up and embrace being a NEWBIE! There is no better place to be! You have a great excuse to fall back on when you mess up, and not only that - you have a reason to SEEK ADVICE from others that aren't new. And I am not talking about within ONEgroup...

Visit that chiropractor, holistic dentist, massage therapist, yoga instructor that are in your region. Or visit all those expos and events that feature these folks - and INTRODUCE YOURSELF. Tell them, "Hey, I am A NEWBIE this whole organic business and I can see you obviously are experienced. Do you have ANY INSIGHTS to share with me about how to find people in the market, where to advertise, where people gather..."

They were new once too, you know. If you approach them with humility and seek guidance - that is such a COMPLIMENT to them! People typically love to help others... and if they don't, then they are not anyone you would like to have in your circle of influence to begin with.

But for heaven's sake, don't approach them gabbing up a storm about all your new insights about ONEgroup, the products, the founders, the mission, etc. This is not going to help you with your business. If you try to sell them something, or try to TELL them something - you will lose them.

Remember, our goal is to COLLECT INFORMATION - NOT give information. We are on a mission to learn and grow from every single person we meet. It is not until we learn about someone else that we can even begin to offer any type of advice or information.

You may have been with ONEgroup for a year - or maybe four years. It doesn't matter. Everyday is a NEW day. Every person is a NEW acquaintance. Every second is a NEW chance to learn and grow and be NEW at something!

Be yourself, enjoy what you do. Send emails to folks that show you were thinking about them and wanted to share something with them. No fancy graphics can replace a heartfelt message.

Embrace being new. Embrace being inexperienced. Embrace who you are. Embrace your own style, uniqueness, expressions. Embrace humility. Embrace all these things and you will find yourself embraced by others.

Let's succeed together!

Blessings,
Candy

We Really Don't Care

This weekend I went into a beauty supply store to pick up some barrettes for my hair. I couldn't find them so the sales girl took me to the back of the store where I could choose from a small selection that were on sale.

I hadn't gone to that part of the store because it was hair products primarily for African American hair. As I turned around to glance at the product line - which incidentally was pretty extensive - I saw a couple products jumping out at me with the word ORGANIC. I was excited to see "organic" products in this national chain and furthermore, excited to see that they were finally supplying African Americans some alternatives to the chemical-laden products that they are presently marketed.

The first item I picked up was called Organic Root Stimulator with Carrot Oil. Sounded good... carrots are good. So I turn it over and begin reading the ingredients. First listed was water... okay... water is typical. It goes on to say soybean oil and coconut oil. So far so good. Not great - but not bad. Then I see them... screaming out to me from the ingredients DIMETHICONE, PEG-25, PROPYL PARABEN, METHYL PARABEN.... it goes on.

I felt my blood pressure rise 100 points. I stood there alone wanting to scream. I turned the container back over... the GREEN container and read it again, just to make sure I didn't hallucinate originally and there it was again... ORGANIC ROOT STIMULATOR.

ORGANIC? It said ORGANIC!!!

Meanwhile, the African American clerk (who I believe was also a cosmetologist) comes back to check on me. I find myself debating whether to ask the dreaded question that not only makes me appear like some white idiot, but may come across as prejudicial or condescending.... but I went for it. I put it out there. I put my foot into my mouth and asked in a very apologetic way, "So is this the stuff that black people put on their hair and leave on?"

She gave me a look that was definitely begging me for an explanation... so I continued by explaining that I was on a mission to understand products that are for black hair because I want to begin an educational program locally on the dangers of certain chemicals found in such products. I further explained that I taught people how to understand the terms "Organic and Natural" and how to recognize false claims in product marketing.

She listened to me in a very thoughtful way, but my own insecurities began to dominate my thoughts making me more and more uncomfortable. I kept thinking, "Dang I shouldn't have asked her this. I hope I didn't offend her." And also I realized for the first time in my life that I had become one of those crazy "preacher" type people that go around telling people what you think... when if they wanted to know, they would have asked. It felt like I was having an out of the body experience - I had become one of those annoying, mouthy ladies that I used to hide from when I worked in retail!

I began babbling. Mostly to try to regain some confidence in myself. I remember saying FDA does not regulate, I threw out the cancer word, I threw out the green washing word... I just babbled. Then she turned to me and said, "May I be completely honest with you?"

I was thrilled! I encouraged her to be as honest as she needed to me. She continued, "Ma'am, a lot chemicals are actually good for black hair. They make our hair look beautiful. A lot of women WANT these chemicals. To be completely honest, most black women don't care if they feel bad or will get sick from them... if it makes them look and feel beautiful." And then she concluded with, "You know, just being honest."

I stood there in a state of shock. Had I really heard what I just heard? Did she really say to me that people don't care about chemicals? Did she really say that chemicals were GOOD for the hair?? Did she really say that people would rather risk their health if it made them look pretty?

I knew that mentality was out there.... but I had come face to face with it in real life for the first time. I just stood there with my lower lip resting on the cold linoleum floor - next to the other foot that I was about to insert into my mouth.

I continued on more calm this time that I understand chemicals MAY be good for the HAIR...and it wasn't the HAIR I was concerned about. It was the scalp beneath the hair that is absorbing these chemicals. Next stop brain, I said. Next stop blood stream, I said.

Another clerk comes up to relieve this poor soul that I was torturing. This girl is white and roughly the same age as the other. She listens - probably with deaf ears. I felt so foolish as I kept ranting.... again, stepping outside of my own body and looking down at myself standing in this store on my soapbox. But all I kept thinking was, "I just want them to understand that this ORGANIC product is full of chemicals and that chemicals are not safe. It is NOT organic!"

I left the store in a daze. Many apologies flew out of my mouth as I exited through the door. I had not made a difference for the good - for them, for others, for myself....

In fact, as Cheryl, my sponsor, pointed out to me this morning, I had probably offended their very profession and their livelihood. If they went to school to learn how to take care of hair and they built their careers around such knowledge, who was I to come in and threaten that?

But there is still a small part of me that hopes one or both of them went out and looked up the chemicals online, or in a book, and began to question them and wonder if they really were unsafe. Or that perhaps they would stop telling customers the products were ORGANIC just because they said so on the label.

But the reality is that these clerks are probably hoping the same thing about me. That perhaps I heard them honestly tell me... "We really don't care."

~ PS ~

I bought these products and they are online at www.organicrootstimulator.com. They have a CONTACT US button. I highly encourage you to take a few minutes to email them about their blatantly false labeling of these products as organic.

If we can't influence the consumers, let's try to influence the source. :-)

Blessings,
Candy

Antibiotics - Don't Think You Don't Take Them!

I read an article the other day about how many medications are found in our water supply. One of the key medications found was antibiotics.

This is one of those, "Ah-ha!" moments for me when it comes to marketing the In-Liven. We always tell people if they have taken antibiotics, they obviously need to reflourish their healthy bacteria. So - if someone says, "I have never taken antibiotics," I suppose the next question we should ask is, "Do you drink your tap water?"

How can it be that we are so careless as human beings to dump our drugs into the aquifers? I suppose the thought is that the filtering systems and chemicals will take care of it. But this article mentions that many of the drugs CANNOT be filtered and thus - we drink them.

Now, personally, I don't drink our tap water. It is well water - and I am a city girl who is afraid of the unknown. However, because we use a community well, they add chlorine and who knows what else. I am still not sure where exactly the water supply is coming from... I have yet to see a well on this property.

I have hooked up my trusty "dechlorinator" to the shower. (Which incidentally has come in quite handy in my new hobby with aquariums and fish) Marty won't even use the tap water to make the coffee in the mornings. I used to think that was a bit over-precautious, but after reading this article, I am feeling pretty grateful for his decision.

Maybe this is why my new fish, Sacha, is thriving on the In-Liven? I was hesitant to give it to her, but after researching fishy diets, I learned that fancy goldfish love spirulina. The first ingredient listed in the In-Liven is spirulina - so I went for it. She loves it! And unless Marty and I are imagining things, she is looking more shiny and vibrant in her colors than ever! She literally is "glistening" in the tank.

And speaking of the tank... it is amazingly clear! In fact, it is so clear that you cannot even tell there is water in there unless you look at the air bubbles going through the filter. Now, goldfish are the messiest fishies to keep because they poop more than any other fish. But her tank water is more clear than the water from our spigot! I am not sure if the In-Liven has anything to do with this... but I am not going to stop her daily regimine of it, that is for sure!

I tried to find articles on fish and probiotics. I found a lot of scientific studies, that were hard to follow, where fish farms are trying certain strains of probiotics to keep the fish healthy. Fish disease spreads fast - and I can imagine that with a lot of fish, they have severe issues when a fish does contract an illness. They pump the water full of... you guessed it... antibiotics! But, I think it is hopeful that they are at least jumping on the probiotic/prebiotic bandwagon. Especially when you consider bio-accumulation and our food chain.

Okay, I went off topic for a moment, but I can bring it back around. Because you see, another thing we can say to people who don't take antibiotics besides, "Do you drink tap water?" Is... "Do you eat fish?" :P

Lest we forget the carnivorous humans that consume factory farm meat! Holy cow do they eat up the antiobiotics!! (ar, ar) So another question to those who don't take antibiotics is, "Do you eat meat?" or "Do you drink milk?"

BTW... my dogs take the In-Liven twice a day with each meal. Don't forget their are people out there who care more about their pets than their own health! (If you want some incredible testimonials about the In-Liven and doggies - let me know and I will share those with you!)

So, let's recap... In-Liven is great for animals, fish, and any human that consumes meat, fish, dairy, and drinks tap water.

Hmmmm.... Can you think of ANYONE that would benefit from the In-Liven? :-)

WE MUST EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT HAIR RELAXERS!

Contamination with 1,4 dioxane is shockingly widespread.
It is found in 97% of hair relaxers

If you know me, you know this is a pet-peeve of mine! Women and men of all color (but majority of them are black women) put these gels and creams on their hair - sometimes for a single treatment, sometimes as a longstanding conditioner.

1,4 Dioxane is just ONE of the chemicals to worry about. Think of the hormone disruptors that are also found in hair products, especially those marketed to African American females. To me, this is a HUGE concern and we have a responsibility to get out there and educate people who use these products thinking that they are safe for themselves and their children.

They say there is NO Breast Cancer Link to 1,4 Dioxane & Black Women:
http://www.cosmeticsdesign.com/news/ng.asp?n=77004-wg-r-lax-rs
http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=81432

So these following statistics are obsolete??
Should Breast Cancer be the ONLY concern for Black Women?

* African-Americans are more likely to develop cancer than any other racial/ethnic group in the United States.(5)

*African Americans are almost twice as likely to die of cancer than any other minority group, and 20% more likely than whites.(6)

* The frequency of pre-menopausal breast cancer in African-American women is twice the rate of Caucasians. Studies show that in most instances, that in African-American women, by age 40, the cancer has already spread.(7)

* Black women have the highest incidence of and mortality from colon and rectum cancer than any other ethnic or racial group.(8)

* Black women with ovarian carcinoma are at an increased risk of death compared with white women with the same disease.(9)

* Compared to non-Hispanic whites, non-Hispanic blacks have more than twice the incidence of end-stage renal disease.(14)

Defining Duplication

What Your Upline Can't Tell You

Everyone wants to know how the top Executives in ONE Group made it there. They jump on the Executive Highlight calls hoping to hear the "secrets" of success. They want to find out EXACTLY what this person did to achieve the top levels of the company and compensation plan.

But more times than not, they hang up the phone with the stark realization that nothing specific was said to them. There was no 1,2,3... on how to duplicate this success. There was all this "generic" data, but nothing that really left them understanding exactly what they should do the following day to achieve Executive themselves.

As recently as last week, even I was under the impression that the top Executives were "holding back" on the meat and potatoes because they had some grand secret that they didn't want to share... at least not outside of their own team. That they had figured it out the 1,2,3... easy to follow instruction manual to success with ONE Group.

Then I sat down and thought about it. I mean really thought about it. And guess what I finally realized? There is NO system! There is no system with ONE Group... or with Avon, or Shaklee, or Arbonne, or with any network marketing company.

There is not one, nor can there ever be one.

And here is why:

First, take a look at this little conversation between a Top Producer and a Newbie...

"So, how did you get to Senior Executive?"
"Well, I made 100 cold calls a day."
"Wow... okay. So where did you get the phone numbers?"
"I bought them at I-love-rejection.com "
"Great! And did you buy cold leads or semi-cold leads?"
"I bought cold leads because they were cheaper."
"Super! Okay, so did you follow a script?"
"Yes, I made one that I can email you."
"Awesome! Did you leave messages or..."
"No, I never left voicemail. I only pitched to those who answered."
"That's important to know. What times of day did you call?"

..... this could go on and on, but I will stop it here.

This representative will get off the phone and think they can duplicate this system to reach Senior Executive. They will go out and buy 100 ice cold leads and pull out the script their mentor sent them. Then they will dial a number and get a recording. They will dial another number and it will be disconnected. They will dial another number and the person on the other end will have NO CLUE what they are talking about, be completely offended for the interruption, and hang up on them (not before cussing them out).

This will go on for about 20-50 calls before the rep is just sick to their stomachs. They cannot do it this way. It is just too hard and too discouraging. This is not what they signed up for!

A large percentage of reps will quit at this point, and not quit making the calls, but the whole business. Another percentage will just get on another Executive call and see what THEY did to grow their business only to learn that:

One Executive may have used newspapers, another may have used Google Ad-Words, another may have used lectures or seminars, another may have done expos, another MiSpa parties...

The truth is, that what works for them, may not work for me. What works for me, may not work for you. What works for you, may not work for your personally sponsored members.

We must hone in on the truth about duplication from the get-go or else we are going to create an entire company of people that think there is some magical 1, 2, 3... to success - which there isn't.

I just finished reading a book that I purchased. It was GUARANTEED to help me create a "duplicatable system". Naturally it was intriguing in the first few chapters. I sat on the edge of my seat with anticipation for this great and magical secret to be revealed.

Wouldn't you know, by the fifth chapter, I am reading an advertisement for the REAL SECRET. This dang book was SELLING ME A SYSTEM. They wanted me to spend MORE money to buy this magical cure for MLM blues. Of course! They all do that. They lure you into their net and then SNAG! Dang... I had been snagged. :-(

"I made me $10,000 in my first month after I completed just one chapter in this course!"

OR

"I sponsored 15 people into my business in only one week after reading this book!"

PULLLEASEEE, spare me the carp! These authors or GURU's of Network Marketing, as the call themselves, are out there shoveling it so high they can't see their own noses. They tell you how they made MILLIONS IN JUST TWO YEARS. In fact, this particular "guru" claims to have made $352,000 in one month while doing network marketing this way - his way.

So... why quit that? I mean, if you are making millions from your network marketing business - why branch off into selling secrets and systems? Sure, multiple streams of income and all that... but if I were making over $350,000 a month, I think I might just kick back and play the stock market while basking on some beach with soft, white sand.

Let me tell YOU a SECRET about these "gurus"... they claim to have made MILLIONS in network marketing - but most likely by selling people on false promises of riches, fortune and fame.

Think about it... if they are deceitful enough to charge you for a book that is supposed to contain secrets to success, and the only secret found within the pages is an advertisement to spend hundreds IF NOT THOUSANDS more to get the REAL SECRET or the SECRET AND BONUS WEBSITE that is "guaranteed to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams," aren't these the types of network marketers we loathe and work each day to NOT be like??

This can only lead me to common sense and logic. I am one of the most flighty people you may ever meet in your lives, but even I must ground myself from time to time and come down to reality where 1+1 equals 2.

When I add logic to the equation of creating a simple "1,2,3... Step-by-Step Guide to Success," I see that it is not possible for one to exist in our universe.

And here is my simple logic behind this:

1. If there were such a system, everyone would be using it
2. If everyone were using it, everyone would be successful

So, where does this leave us as representatives trying to mentor others to do what we do when we can't possibly expect someone to do EXACTLY what we do?

There are some specific things that ARE duplicatable...

Or the word I prefer: CONTAGEOUS

- Smiles
- Happiness
- Laughter
- Positive Attitudes
- Enthusiasm
- Faith
- Love
- Dedication
- Determination
- Motivation
- Tenacity
- Integrity
- Honesty
- Peace
- Compassion
- Empathy
- Self-Confidence

These are things WE ALL HAVE WITHIN US!

No one can script these things to follow because you see, they are not tangible. They can be written, they can be read, they can even be said and heard - but they cannot be achieved without something inside of ourselves.

There is no manual on how to get day to day in life... but we do.

How do we do that?

Think about it.

How to be the 1%

99% of people who join network marketing never earn a full-time income!

This is no secret, and you were bound to find this out sooner or later - so let's put in on the table right now.

As you feel the lump rise in your throat, or the tears well up in your eyes, I encourage you to swallow and take a deep breath… because I am going to show you how NOT to be the 99%!

What separates the 99% from the 1% ?

99%: Work the business when the mood strikes them.
1%: Work the business even when they are not in the mood.

99%: Think it will be easy.
1%: Know nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

99%: Won't leave their comfort zone.
1%: Know that leaving their comfort zone expands it.

1%: Know products don’t speak.

99%: Take rejection personally.
1%: Realize that it is just part of doing business.

99%: Think a person buys a drill because the need a drill.
1%: Know a person buys a drill because they need a hole.

1%: View marketing & training as investments.

99%: TELL, tell, tell!
1%: ASK, ask, ask!

99%: SPEAK, speak, speak!

And finally…

The #1 thing that separates the 99% from the 1%:

99%: Quit when they fail.
1%: Know the only way to fail is to quit!

The Products are too Expensive

Do you believe they are too expensive?

Why do you believe this?

Do you know someone who feels they are an exceptional value?

If you said "no," to that last one, think again, because I believe they are!

Ah, price... it bites us everywhere we turn. Some of you stand there fearing the customer will say, "how much?" You begin to sweat, your heart palpitates, your breathing is heavy and then they finally ask and you mumble out the price ... and then rise to the occasion by apologizing for it!

Okay, that is one way to do it, I suppose.

But remember, like I always say, "Perception is everything!" If you perceive the prices to be too high, and in turn expect the customer to think so too - you are creating an opportunity to lose a sale because of price.

Have you done any of Leonie Featherstone's calls (miSpa lady)? She also discusses how important it is to not "prejudge" your customers. If doing a miSpa party, don't assume no one will want to book - because you never know! If you go in with the assumption that EVERYONE will want to book, you may very surprised at the results.

I think many of us have a bad habit of assuming the worst so that we are pleasantly surprised at the outcome if it is the best. I used to do this all the time. I would say to others, "I probably won't get that raise." And I would actually tell myself that as well. Then when I didn't get the raise, I wouldn't have let myself down or others...

the truth is, if you do at all believe in the power of positive thinking or the law of attraction - you must also believe that by sending such negative thoughts out of yourself, you are also attracting negative results. And yes - it is much easier than going around telling everyone, "I know I am going to get this raise," and then it doesn't happen. This leaves you with egg on your face... or does it? We won't know until we try! So expect positive results - it certainly can't hurt anything!

Who are we to assume what others think or feel? This can only get you into trouble. If you assume that someone cannot afford the products, you are also assuming that 1) they probably don't care enough about their health to go organic, 2) they appear to be impoverished, 3) that you, yourself, believe they are too expensive, 4) that you lack confidence in your very own business.

So, how come I believe the products are a great value? How did I come to this revelation?

Well - here it is as I perceive it...

The body wash, hand soap, shampoos and bar soaps ARE PROBABLY TOO EXPENSIVE for the average person. This is no secret to the Directors either. However, would you rather see the products removed from the line - or be offered in addition to the other products for those who can afford them?

The latter was decided.

Look at it this way. If you owned a car dealership, would you carry some top of the line luxury cars, or would you only carry compact to mid-sized economy cars? Obviously you will want to have something on the lot for those that are looking to make a high ticket purchase, right?

You wouldn't want to send those who had the money to spend on a Rolls Royce away - would you? No. You would want to accommodate them and have their business! The majority of the cars on your lot may in fact be economy vehicles, but that is to appeal to the masses - not dismiss those outside of the masses.

More problems with making assumptions...
A guy walks onto your car lot wearing jeans that are covered in grease and he is disheveled. If you lead him right over to your cheapest automobile and begin selling features of the car. You made the ASSUMPTION that he looked like a mechanic and thus he doesn't have a lot of money... when in truth, Jay Leno works on his own cars and doesn't shave on the weekends. What if this consumer had turned out to be Jay Leno or someone even more profound, famous or wealthy?

This is why our jobs in direct sales is NOT to be salespeople, but to be more of Private Investigators. We must first ask what someone is looking for, and how much they are looking to spend before we ASSUME what they can or cannot afford.

Change Your Perceptions to Win
Have you ever had someone staring at you from across the room? Perhaps someone of the same sex who is just glaring at you for what seems to be an eternity? To the point where you want to say,"Take a picture, it might last longer??"

Yah... me too! :-)

Some people become very uncomfortable when they are being stared at because they assume the worst. They assume their fly is down, their lipstick is smudged or that something is wrong... but that is only a PERCEPTION. The person staring at you could very well be off in their own world, or watching the game on the TV over your head, or simply thinking, "Wow, she has amazing skin. I wonder what she uses?"

Perception is a powerful thing!

Three Simple Action Exercises
Discover your own price revelations about the products. Make it a plan to review the prices of the products. Look at the comparison that Narelle put in the past newsletter that showed other brand's pricing. Decide which products from ONE Group you would continue to purchase if you were no longer a rep - and WHY. (this is your own testimonial and value to share with others!)

Alter your perceptions by incorporating positive thinking in your life. Expect the best instead of the worst!

Catch yourself when you are making assumptions about others and instead, ASK them what they would like to know, buy or pay.

Be True to Yourself to Succeed

It goes without saying that our sales strategy is an emotional one.

We are appealing to customers through making a positive impact on their health and the environment and we are appealing to prospective business partners to aid us along in this incredible mission of healing the planet and helping others make informed decisions.

You can't script it.
A lot of companies follow scripted presentations. To be honest, this lack of scripted presentations was one of the main deciding factors when I was considering ONE Group initially. I don't want to stand there like a robot and follow some scripted verbiage with selling taglines and keywords. I wanted to do my own thing - be my own boss meant being able to run the business as I saw fit. And yes, a script is a great starting point - and we should use them as merely an outline to a strategy, but fill in the blanks with our own words!

Your story IS compelling!
Reading testimonials is great, but they aren't always real to YOU. You need to have your own story - with passion to put behind it. This is what your prospects will hear and believe. Even joining one of our team Groupie Calls or one of Czerral's In-Liven calls, or any live conference call - will allow you to hear firsthand the stories, and be able to relay the ones that touched your heart, with confidence and conviction to others.

Have you read the MiSales Strategy yet?
If you haven't downloaded the copy online or ordered the CD's and manual, you really should! Michael Oliver outlines, in easy to follow steps, how to sell the products and opportunity. Even if you hate the word "sales," or even the concept behind selling, he addresses this and lays a solid foundation with assignments in each chapter to help you overcome your aversions.

Also, by positioning yourself as a MiSales representative, you can easily help your new team members get off on the right foot by having them follow the same methodology. This is priceless!

Did you hear the one about the Viagra effect of Fast-Tract?
Oh yes, this is my favorite personal testimonial from my very own family member. I share this story all the time - and it really gets people's attention - as you can imagine!

Have you read Bonny Belanger's Presentation on NICHE marketing?
Again, if you haven't read through this, you should! It can be located in your member's area from the North American conference. This is an EXCELLENT place to start, as I am a firm believer that we must have our own niche. (Even if that means finding men with erectile dysfunction! LOL!)

But in all seriousness, erectile dysfunction is no laughing matter. Nor is bowel incontinence, or IBS, or eczema or any other health related problem that could be lessened with the help of the proper guidance to a safe solution. One of my reps has a testimonial of an older gentleman who suffered shamefully with bowel incontinence and the In-Liven eliminated it; enabling him to live a much happier life. What an amazing story!! What an incredible difference she made by recommending the products and explaining how they will work with his body!!

What have the products done for you that are amazing? Share this story - and consider making THIS your niche!

Thinking Small means Thinking "Specialty"
Whoever said that by joining ONE Group we would have to sell over 100 products? No one. The truth is you can pick and choose your product platform. If you have been contemplating your own website - consider making it product specific. Such as only the probiotic products or only one of them, such as the in-liven.

Are you cutting off your foot by doing so? I don't think so. You can always follow-up with information on other products at some point! Also, I don't think that people searching the internet for natural relief to constipation are looking to change their cosmetics or skin care. This is part of educating the consumer after he/she makes a purchasing decision about what they are looking for.

* Also, by selecting a single product or a single range of products, will make you stand out as a SPECIALIST - further enticing a consumer to purchase from you.

We must come to the realization that you can't be all things to all people. I think many of us believe that we must be an organic specialist, a cosmetics consultant, a skin care counselor, and some sort of probitics specialist all rolled into one to succeed with ONE Group, and that is not the case. This only sets your bar to an unattainable height and leads to discouragement in the long run!

Define your Strengths
Where do you excel? Do you understand the importance of reducing the body's overall chemical burden? Have you or someone you know had excellent results on the nutritionals? Are you well versed in skin-type consulting or anti-aging secrets? Are you an expect on herb and herbal remedies?

Expert or novice doesn't matter if you have your own story to share. Your own tangible testimonial that touches your heart or awes you in amazement to share with others.

Take this and build from it your own ideas. And be sure to look up those resources I mentioned above for even more guidance!

Blessings,
Candy

Caring for Customers

Dear Fellow Organic Entrepreneurs,

Let me ask you a couple questions...
  1. Who PAID to advertise to find that customer you have?
  2. Who "hoofed" it around town to FIND that customer you have?
  3. Who SERVICED and EDUCATED this customer?
  4. Whose INVESTMENT is this customer?

I assume you are getting the point here.

ROI means Return on Investment. When we source, land and close a customer, that customer's sale is providing a commission to us - which is going towards recouping the value of that initial investment (whether it be money, time or both). The customer now becomes the investment.

Our goal as Independent Representatives is to earn an ROI on our customers - but not just on that initial sale, but potentially for life. When you are helping a customer place their first order you should be thinking, "How can I keep this customer for LIFE..." rather than, "How can I make this sale lucrative..."

When I spoke at the Conference in CA, one of the questions I posed to the audience was, "How many testimonials does ONE Group have on their site?" No one knew for certain - but we all know there are a lot. Then I posed the question, "How many of those are relating to the actual SERVICE that customer received?" Imagine that - the audience grew silent - then a light bulb went off in everyone's minds.

You see, we may be a product based company with an exclusive range of amazing products - but without good service, we are not going to build a business that continues on momentum. People shop from people they like, they trust, and receive excellent service from. And before you start pointing the finger at Support - I consider you to remember the opening of this email... who is the REAL support for this customer? Yes... you are.

Here are some things that you can do to ensure that your customers return to you to purchase, and ensure that you will continue to receive a return on your investment.

Under promise - Over deliver.
Yes, the phrase is old, but the concept still works today. When I have a customer that purchases the In-Liven for the first time, I send them a complimentary In-Liven CD. When a customer purchases the shampoo, I include a sachet of conditioner.

Empowering through Information.
Our education process does not end at the close of the sale. After each order I hand out or email them a sheet of information about the shipping and return policy. It is imperative that we disclose HOW the order will arrive WHEN it should arrive and what to do if the order is not meeting their standards. This includes contacting ME directly with any questions or concerns as their "personal liaison to Australia."

The Follow-Up
Don't "eat and run" after you have a customer. What I mean is, don't take their money and say, "Thanks - have a great day!" You should begin the follow-up process after an order is placed. After 5-7 days make contact to see if their order arrived and if everything was in good order. Ask if they have tried the products yet - if they like them - and if they have any questions or concerns that you can assist them with.

If I call - they might complain!
The number one reason I have found as to why reps do not follow up after an order is because they are afraid the customer won't be happy. Let me stress this... This is okay! It is better to find out WHY they are unhappy with an opportunity to make it RIGHT - than it is to never know and never hear from them again (As well as potentially lose any referrals they might have sent your way!! )

We can't fix it if we don't know it is broke!! Encourage honest feedback from your customers!! They appreciate this very much - and it also achieves your goal... to gain their trust to continue a business relationship.

Returns Happen!
Don't be afraid to have a returned product or order. Imagine that your customer didn't consult with you before shopping and got the wrong type of product for their skin, ,or didn't like a color or fragrance or...

If you call them and help them with this, you can assist them in choosing the right products and help them return the ones that didn't work. But if you ignore the customer and let them go straight to support from their invoice - you are probably losing this customer's order entirely because: IT IS NOT SUPPORT'S JOB TO SELL PRODUCTS TO YOUR CUSTOMERS or make recommendations based on skin types... remember, this is YOUR customer for YOUR business!!

Seamless Customer Service
By maintaining sole contact with your customers and keeping them from having to contact support in Australia, you are building that relationship and also making it a seamless process for the customer. People LOVE convenience!

How to Process a Return
First, discover what the problem is.

ONE Group's Boo-Boo
If it was anything that could have been the responsibility of the company such as: soured smell, leaking/broken products, faulty nozzles, wrong product, etc.

ONE GROUP'S RETURN POLICY:
Broken parcels will need to be retained until authorised by ONE Group as the courier company may require them for insurance purposes. ONE Group must be notified within 7 business days of receiving the order of leaking products or product damaged in transit or products that that been despatched by ONE Group in error.

REPLACEMENT POLICY
Under ONE Group’s Replacement Policy, the Company will only accept product for replacement where:
(a) The product has been returned to a Representative or Affiliate (Retailer, Health & Beauty Professional) by a Retail Customer/Client and meets the 15-day, 100% money back guarantee;
(b) The product has been damaged in transit (despatched by ONE Group);
(c) The product has been despatched by ONE Group in error;
(d) The product is faulty.

- Get the following information in addition to the problem:
- Invoice Number
- Product Name, Code and Expiration Date
- (be sure to have customer's contact information!)

- Now Contact Support:
- If in North America, call (612) 284-3970 and leave a DETAILED MESSAGE
- include your name, the customer's name, invoice number, your ONE Group ID, and briefly describe issue
- When you speak with support be sure to let them know that it was on the fault of the company and your customer should NOT have to return the faulty products to Nevada and find out how to proceed.
- Be sure to ask that all correspondence regarding this issue to be emailed to you and not the customer so you may maintain the contact and stay in the loop - or if you wish them to email the customer directly (which I do not advise) ask to be Cc:'d on the email.

*** Note: If you feel that your problem is not being resolved in a professional manner or your customer is not getting a fair solution - please email or call your upline support to assist you!

If the Return is Customer's Choice
If the return is by choice of the customer, you must again find out what the problem is and work with the customer to find a suitable replacement for the product.

- When the customer wishes to return products because they simply don't like them or they are the wrong color, shade, etc., they MUST be prepared to RETURN the products to Nevada.

ONE Group will NOT do Product Exchanges!
This means that you cannot simply have your customer send their Rejuvenating cleanser to Nevada and expect ONE Group to reissue a Purifying one. The customer must return the product they do not want and place a new order/paying shipping again. When OG receives the returned product in Nevada, a notation is sent to Australia to REFUND the purchase price to the account holder's credit card.

- To process this type of return, follow the directions above by contacting support and relay the information to your customer - which should include an RAN (return authorization number) for them to place on their package, visible to the receiver in Nevada.

ONE GROUP'S RAN POLICY:
The product that has been authorised for return and replacement (RAN issued), must be received within 14 days from the RAN issue date together with proof of purchase (relevant ONE Group Invoice) AND, for security reasons, the RAN must be displayed on the outside of the parcel within the Sender’s details (eg G Smith, 1 Smith Street, Smithtown, Refer: RAN 123). If these requirements are not met, the goods will not be accepted and the RAN will be deemed null and void. Only product included in the RAN will be accepted by ONE Group. Any unauthorised product shall be returned to the Sender.

When all Goes Well - More Follow-Up
Keep in mind that more times than not your customers are happily enjoying their products. Be sure to stay in touch by contacting them about 4 weeks after they purchase to see how they are enjoying their products. At this time let them know of any new products, developments, etc.

More, more, more Follow-Up
Keep your customers in the loop by sending monthly updates such as tips on staying healthy, living organic, new products, shipping changes, out of stock products, holiday notifications, ANYTHING - anything to continue to build and nurture that relationship!!

Remember - a customer is YOUR INVESTMENT for LIFE!

Weekly Team Update (12/2/07)

Dearest Fellow Organic Entrepreneurs,

Well – it is December 1st already! Only 23 days left to shop for Christmas and 20 days for Hanukah! Are you ready for the holidays this season?

I know I am not, but I did get some ONE Group products ordered this weekend. I am giving Marty’s daughters each a Sunflower Body Wash and Tropicana Body Lotion. I will put these in a basket with a poof or loofa sponge. My step-mother is getting the Garnet Exfoliant with a Rejuvenating Mask and mask brush, and my father is getting the Fast-Tract, which he LOVES for reasons that are just too personal to put in this newsletter ;-) My ex (yes I shop for the ex) is getting the Ambrosia Essence as he lives and breathes by it for his ears – he wears hearing aids and always gets inner ear infections and sores. Since using the Ambrosia in them, he no longer has problems!

Have you done your ONE Group holiday shopping yet? If not – hurry!! Only 11 days left for guaranteed holiday delivery!!

Getting Back into the Game
How to plant a single seed and watch it grow, grow, grow!

I believe even the most savvy person in direct sales would feel overwhelmed with ONE Group and all the different product ranges, ways to grow a business and opportunities online to explore. Many times this feeling of being of overwhelmed can be so powerful, that we simply shut ourselves down. The idea of going forward is too complicated with the classic, “Where do I start?” or “What do I start with?”

Well I am here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way and there are some things that you can do immediately to get yourself back on track to building a successful business.

I have always wanted to create a “freebie” for people to download off my website, but each time I would try to explore some sort of E-book, White Paper, or Newsletter, I would find that it was a huge investment of time (to write it myself), or financial resources (to purchase a copy for multiple distribution), or both. But this week I put myself to the grindstone and was determined to find something to entice prospects that didn’t consume my every waking minute or break my bank.

At first, the ideas were grandiose and still required much time, but as I began to explore them further, I finally “saw the light” that it didn’t have to be something complicated and massive, but merely something helpful to the average person – rephrase… the type of person that would want the information.

First, let me explain WHY having a “freebie” is so important. First, everyone loves freebies and is willing to give up the one thing that we most need for our businesses...their email addresses. Once we have their email address, we can not only send them their freebie, but also offer other freebies – such as information, tips, hints, sales, specials, and just stay in touch. Why again? Because it is said that it takes the average consumer 6-8 times of seeing a brand name or product to make a purchasing decision. There is no other way to reach out 6-8 times if we don’t have a way to reach them.

So here are some ideas that I came up with…

Use your own passion and knowledge on a subject and write a simple one or two page information sheet. If you are good at this, you can write several and allow your consumers to choose one or all.

1. “Common causes of acne and how to achieve clear skin through an organic lifestyle.”
2. “The 5 Worst Chemicals for Your Skin and the 5 Best Alternatives”
3. “Going Organic is not an All or Nothing Process” – how to make small steps toward healthy living.
4. “Reduce your Body’s Chemical Burden in 3 Easy Steps”
5. “How Choosing Organic Benefits the Environment”

Now, again – these are just some random ideas. I am sure you can come up with much better ones!

You DO NOT have to have a website for this, and this is the topic of this week’s Groupie Call! We will discuss the various ways to get the word out – and a lot of them are FREE to do! Please mark your calendars to join us for this vital call to your business!

Right Under Your Nose?

Is the representative that is going to be your best producer lurking in your very midst?

Wouldn’t it be great to have a local “partner in crime” to grow the business with? Someone who you can bounce ideas off, canvas locations to post information or do home presentations with? (Wouldn’t it be nice to have a Reiki Master or Massage Therapist to pamper hostesses with?) Also, wouldn’t it be great to have someone to be your eyes, ears and mouth when you just don’t have the time to get out and build your business?

When I was in California I watched fellow Senior representatives Ann and Arun working together as a team and I thought to myself, “I wish my sweetie, Marty, would be as involved as Arun!” Of course, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon (or in this lifetime really) – so I am forced to look outside my house.

But I don’t want just “anybody” to join my team locally – I want a real business partner. Someone that brings as much to the table as they take from it. Someone who can motivate me when I am sluggish and I can reciprocate. Someone who has the same passion and desire of success that I have – and wants to build a huge local team. Because, let’s face it – when we find out there is a dynamic company representative in our region that we didn’t personally sponsor – is going to be a real sucker punch!

So with that in mind – and the New Year around the corner (with lots of people looking to turn over a new leaf in life and career) maybe we should try to run a classified ad in January? Below is an example of a classified ad that I may run:

Local Business Partner Wanted
Est. home biz owner seeks spirited entrepreneur to partner w/ for sales, live presentations, recruiting, marketing & more. Must be creative, innovative, outgoing, and have passion for environment or natural health & live within 10 mi. of “city”. Mo. expenses under $100. Income potential unlimited!

Please send resume with cover letter to:

Remember, we are business owners, and as such we can be scrupulous with whom we personally sponsor into our team. When we have to SELL someone on joining the business, we most likely will have to SELL them on WORKING the business. This isn’t going to help our success – or theirs. What we must do is change our mindset to think in terms of finding people who “wish to partner with us” rather than trying to convince people about the potentials of our business opportunity.

I truly believe that once this mindset is changed – you will find your business growing beyond measure!

Get Featured FREE Online!

Many of you know that I have my team listed on my ONEwithEarth site, and miraculously, it comes up first in the search engines when someone browses “city” miessence representatives. So first, make sure you are listed… if you are new to my team, you may not be. Legacy folks – you too may be added, so please email me your listing information ASAP!

Starting in January, each month I will feature a Representative at the top of the page. This will host their photo and ONE Group bio with a link directly to their website. And though this page gets picked up by the search engines automatically, I will further highlight this by running Google Ad-words to promote the page for those seeking Miessence Representatives!

To view the page (which will be redesigned before the new year) visit: http://onewithearth.com/our_exceptional_team_members.htm
Please note, the criteria for being listed on the page is changing:

1. To be listed on the page, you must be on team Legacy, which includes being in the downlines of Executive Bonny Belanger, Mg. Executive Ronit Rosen or former Mg. Executive Ron Tracy.
2. You must be actively on Business Protection and have your Credit Card Authorization Form on file with corporate. To find out if you are active, take a look at your name in your tree in the back office. A small orange b means you are on Business Protection, but your forms are not on file or current and you need to fax your CCAF to corporate. A capital B in black means you are good to go!
3. To have a website listed, it must be a URL outside of mionegroup.com. It can be a simple redirect.
4. Only ONE Representative per household is able to be listed. If you own two businesses, you may only list one of your choosing.

------------------------------------------------------------------

December’s “Get Featured” Contest:
The first Featured Representative in 2008 will be the representative with the most Preferred Customer sales in December 2007. It only goes to say that during this busy season, the representative who can successfully continue to make sales in this month – even with the holiday sales at hand – is truly a dedicated representative and deserves to be featured!! (On the first of the month simply email me a copy of your PC sales totals.)

I am NOT a MiSpa Party Girl – but that’s got to change!

As I sit here, I am reveling in the amazing experience of just having done a full miessence facial. Wow – do I love the way my skin feels and looks right now! And while I was applying the products I kept thinking how wonderful it would be to have someone doing it for me. To have been able to just sit back and relax and take in all those luscious earthen fragrances …

Imagine how others would enjoy such a treat – so much so that most people PAY for that type of pampering at spas! With us doing it – they don’t have to pay for it, and can be pampered with the purest products on the planet.

If you are like me, you may be cringing right now at the very thought of touching others. But hey, that’s okay! Who ever said that YOU, personally, had to do it?? That’s right… you don’t have to do MiSpa facials… you just need to find someone who does!

I am exaggerating when I say I cringe at touching others, I guess I am not cringing, just a little leery of maybe poking an eye out or getting someone else’s “nose particle” on my hand…?

I tried to argue my way out of touching others by saying that the state laws don’t allow it, but as Ron Tracy has been investigating, it seems that as long as the service is “complimentary” and we are not charging for a facial or other service, most states are saying it is completely legal. (be sure to check with your state first)

As much as I say that “I am not a MiSpa Party Girl” I must come to the inevitability that it is a VERY LUCRATIVE source of income with ONE Group - and it is VIRTUALLY SUSTAINABLE which means less advertising dollars out of my pocket.

So what I am doing is first, gathering with a few members of my local team, whereby we are going to “practice” facials on each other and try to find comfort with the process. Now, if you don’t have a local team, don’t fret – I am sure a spouse, neighbor, family member, friend, etc… would be MORE than happy to be pampered as your little MiSpa guinea piglet!

Do the math – if you have three people that you personally sponsored doing MiSpa Parties and each one does only $1,000 in sales per month – that is roughly $300 in YOUR pocket monthly… plus the $70 in Loyalty bonuses and the Retirement on their orders… that is about $400 a month. Now add your own $1,000 MiSpa party to the equation – another $300. Now you are at $700 a month! (Let’s not forget those returning customer orders too!) Who doesn’t want to earn an extra $700+ a month for a few hours of work! I know I sure do!!

So before you write off the MiSpa Party plan as part of your business, remember – it is an AMAZING PLAN! And if you haven’t reviewed it or done the conference call with Leonie, you really should, because I know you are going to be totally impressed with the system!

Many of you have struggled to get your businesses off the ground and many of you have felt that there hasn’t been a proven “system” in place to become successful with the company. If you have felt that way and are at a crossroads with your business – please consider the MiSpa plan – because it will work!

Keep in mind that you DON’T have to do the facials to pamper a hostess! This was something that Leonie and I spoke directly about. When I first ordered the MiSpa kit and hostess packs, I was sad to see they were promoting the “pampering” when I wanted to make it a more educational seminar. But as Leonie pointed out to me, there are a lot of ways to pamper a hostess without doing the facial.

These could be as simple or complex as:
1. Taking the hostess a little gift upon arriving (this could be a little candle or consider partnering with a local massage therapist looking for new customers that would offer a coupon for a massage)
2. Giving her heated booties and some cream to pamper her feetsies
3. Supplying her with a heated neck warmer during the presentation
4. Taking a foot bath machine for her to soak in – or ion spa machine to detox

There are a lot of ideas out there – just get your wheels turning! Don’t forget – these DON’T have to be HOME parties. You can do businesses, local groups, etc… (and remember, if you just absolutely don’t want this as your platform for ONE Group, you should still try to find those who do!)

Fun Theme Parties! I think it would be great to give the parties a theme. Even a “juicing party” where everyone juices some fruits and veggies, or “organic salad” party where everyone can bring their own organic fruits and veggies or side dishes (this eliminates a lot of burden on the hostess), or how about organic chocolate fondue (everyone brings a fruit to dip) or organic cheese and wine…

If you don’t know what to say during a presentation, that is okay! Know your stuff, but I learned that you don’t have to LECTURE anyone. I went to a party for another company last month and all the presenter did was have a roll of tickets. She gave a ticket to anyone that asked her a question. The person at the end of the evening with the most tickets won a prize. This put all the questions and participation on the party attendees – and she basically didn’t have to do anything but answer their questions!

If you would like to bounce around MiSpa ideas or have a success story to share, please contact me as I would love to speak to you!

Yummy Cacao, Cacao, Cacao!

My Berry Radical Antioxidant arrived this afternoon! I ripped open the box with great anticipation only to find the most exquisite packing by ONE Group to date!

Though most of you will probably never find as much excitement as us ONE Group Representatives when it comes to packaging, I must confess that even you would be impressed with this beautiful display.

With Marty by my side, I ripped open a packet to smell. We both inhaled deeply and it was sooooo delicious smelling... I actually had to pull the packet away from him! (Note to Self: HIDE box of Berry Radical from Marty or it will disappear!)

I had nothing here really to mix it with except some half and half, so I warmed that on the stove with half spring water and half cream and poured it into a coffee cup. It looked just like hot chocolate and smelled like hot chocolate... well, not really - more of really deep rich cocoa with an amazingly awesome aroma of raspberry. Something you would only find at a gourmet shop for sure!

It tasted delicious! Though I felt it needed a little more sweetener and added a few drops of honey to taste... then woofed it down! I must say that it is hard to imagine that it is a healthy drink - nothing good for you usually tastes that good!

Most people I imagine will fret at the price tag of this amazing herbal product, and if I wasn't a ONE Group Representative, I don't know that I could afford it often - but I certainly would buy it and drink at least one or two cups a week - not only for the health benefits, but for the pure unadulterated joy without guild of getting real chocolate! After dinner I may just have to splurge and have another cup!

Some companies out there have built entire empires on tasty nutritious drinks. I feel so fortunate that not only can I now provide customers with such a product, but also a complete line of organic skin, body, hair, dental, cosmetics and household products to compliment their whole decision to live more organic!

Is it after dinner yet?

(New Note to Self: Maybe Marty should hide the box from ME! :-)

Planning for the Season

Dear Team,

I was sitting here this morning putting an email together for one of my Preferred Customers and it dawned on me that autumn is right around the corner. Here are some things to consider when developing your business strategies for the upcoming season…

August
Traditionally August isn’t a good month for the business. This is due to both time and finances. A lot of families cram in that last minute summer vacation and then start shopping and preparing for back to school. Finances during this month are tight – and most parents are not going to shop for themselves. Through the last week of August, people begin planning for the Labor Day Holiday to come.

This is the most productive time you will have to start planning for the upcoming months of the holiday season - our best time of the year!

September
The first week of September this year is when Labor Day will occur. After this weekend, it is smooth sailing through the end of October. This is also PRIME craft show season. Check your local listings to monitor the various craft show events. If you don’t have something handmade to participate in these events, consider attending them to network with the crafters. Most crafters work from home by choice - and could really use some extra income.

September is also valuable because moms have sent their kiddies back to school and need some MOM TIME. They will probably be very open to hearing about the MiSpa parties that pamper them and allow them gatherings with their friends. If you are to pursue the MiSpa Parties – be sure to start booking NOW.

This is also the best time to start planning your New Year recruitment strategy. If you are going to try to appeal to the senses of those looking for a new start in the new year, this is the time to check the deadlines of publications for ad or story submissions, develop your flyers, etc.

October
It is time to start thinking about Christmas and Hanukah. People are still purchasing items for themselves – but not as much, as it is time to think of others. Begin marketing your products as GIFTS during this month. This is truly your ONLY month to really push for holiday sales as the Thanksgiving holiday in November is another time for family and celebrations, not only for your prospects, but for yourself. So be sure to make EVERY day in this month count!

Also, be sure to start planning your holiday marketing NOW. This month is going to creep on us really fast, so we must be prepared! If you are going to mail your Preferred Customers a card, get them ordered. If you are doing an email campaign, start planning ideas for that. If you want to run a postcard holiday campaign, post flyers, or anything of the sort – the time to make them is NOW.

November
ONE Group does not guarantee holiday delivery far into the season and with Turkey Day in this month, it can be a real struggle. However, I have found that November is always my strongest month for product sales and new representatives – so don’t give up! If you work the business consistently through September and October, November will really pay off!

December
Ah, time to relax… By the second week of December you will notice an eerie silence in your email box, your telephone and every other aspect of your business. Take this time to relax and regroup as January will be another semi-quiet month that you should use full advantage of to plan your year’s strategy. February will kick off an incredible surge in people seeking the business opportunity. That new year – new leaf to turn over - can invariably be our Bodhi leaf!

The Truth about Retailers, as I see it

Do you like beating your head against the wall?

Because if you don't, going after retailers to offer the ONE Group product line isn't for you.

When I first joined ONE Group, I was so excited about the possibility of selling to retailers. The "Why" of this is something for Sigmund Freud to dissect. Perhaps I thought it would make me less of an "Avon Lady" and more of a "Donald Trump" if I wasn't just going around selling organic products to individuals. I don't know really where I was coming from - all I know is that where I found myself after a few tried and failed attempts was not a happy place.

The funny thing is that my professional background is in sales... Business to Business sales in fact. I have sat at the negotiation table with the decision makers of Fortune 500 companies and landed multi-million dollar accounts. I thought that pursuing a few local retail store owners would be a walk in the park...

Boy, was I wrong!

Just last week one of you presented me with a story of rejection by a retailer. This retailer said that unless they could get the 40% off on products, they weren't interested - because they were looking at their bottom line.

What I found most striking about this objection is the irony within it. If a retailer is looking at their bottom line profits - wouldn't it make more sense to leverage their income by offering their customers the best products on the market? Wouldn't it leverage their income to have others out there selling products for them?

The following questions came to my mind...
  1. How many products does their store sell when the doors are closed?

  2. How far can they actually reach a customer demographic? Maybe 10-20 miles?

This retailer probably has hopes of making profits - but does this retailer have goals of being a multi-million dollar chain of stores? No, probably not. And that is okay because not everyone has a million dollar mentality. What I have found is that most small retailers don't have their "financial gauges" set to go above a certain level of income.

Another thing about retail stores is that they hate MLM companies and would rather be set aflame than be associated with a network marketing company. I have no clue why this is, nor where these people get their information, but personally I feel it is based on ignorance.

Another one of you called me this week and said that her retailer said that he refused to be associated with MLM because it put him in direct competition with the representatives. This is also another bit of irony that I can't help but ask questions to:

  1. If he is in competition with the reps, are not the reps also in competition with him?

  2. If another store offering the same products as he offered opened up across the street from him - would he close his doors in fear of the competition?

  3. How many other stores that sell his same products are in his region or online? Probably quite a few - yet he still opened a store to compete. Why then is he afraid of MLM competition?

  4. If he is afraid of MLM competition - why? Does he see how powerful it is?? And if so - why wouldn't he position himself in such a place of power?

There are some pretty high up reps in ONE Group and even some newbies that think retail is going to sink the company. They claim that it is making the market for reps impossible to succeed. I must question this... if the retailers are sinking the reps, why then are the retailers so afraid of us? 2+2 is just not adding up to 4 here.

I am beginning to see that in order to be successful with retailers, we must apply the same principles that we apply to prospective customers and representatives. We must QUALIFY them first. But before we do - we must assess our 80/20 Rule. How much work will it take to make that retailer happy vs. how much money we will make off that retailer. If we are applying 80% of our efforts into retail for a 20% ROI, is that really where we want to be? BUT... if the retailer is self-sufficient and doesn't need a lot of work and you invest 20% of your time to make 80% of your GV, then perhaps it is worthy of a second look.

I don't see retail as direct competition. Personally, I believe there are different types of shoppers in the world. There are those that love to shop online, there are those that love to shop in stores and there are those that prefer direct contact with a personal representative. Those three very seldom cross over. But when they do - it is something that benefits everyone.

For example, if a customer runs out of miessence deodorant, they are faced with having to order it and wait up to a week. They cannot do this. Most folks won't go a week without their deodorant - well, hopefully. :-) So this customer is faced with having to go to their local health store or organic market and do what? Buy another brand. Why? Because it is convenient. What could happen as a result? We could lose this customer forever to the convenience factor.

In my mind, I would LOVE to be able to tell my customer that they can run into their local health market and buy the miessence. For me - it is about making the customer happy.

This is where the dilemma of retail comes into play. If a retailer isn't thinking in terms of what will make his customers most happy - he will see us as competition. Equally, if a representative is seeing retail as the competition... what does that say?

But what if this retailer had the opportunity to capitalize off the competition? What I mean is, if this retailer were to join as a Representative, he could build the competition himself. That way, all competition's sales would lead back to him. To me - this is a no brainer.

We must go back to the mentality factor of retail and in looking at the typical small retail store, they are indeed Mom & Pop shops. Do mom and pop have a burning desire to make money?

Let me tell you that I grew up in a family of retailers. My family owned a small chain of retail stores back in the 70's - early 90's. Big discount chains put us out of business eventually. But even before the plethora of discount stores took over, I can tell you this ------ my family's goals were not to make millions. The typical small retailer is thinking in terms of simply keeping the doors open and turning ANY profit that they can just to stay alive.

My father had already made his wealth before opening the stores. In fact, he opened the stores as part of his early retirement. It gave his wife something to do, and gave him money to play Skins on the golf course everyday. That was it... there was no goal of making millions. It was simply an elaborate retirement account.

This leads us back to qualifying. You must qualify retailers the same way that you qualify anyone else in the business. Don't walk in trying to SELL them something. Walk in and try to find out if they are someone worth doing business with. Do they meet the demographics? Do they have a nice shop that you would be PROUD to see the products in? Proud to say, "One of my retailers is..." How much hand holding does this shop need? Is it worth your time?

If they qualify - then you make your presentation.

And then possibly comes the rejection. But don't take it too hard!! The funny thing is that if you sat at a table with the CEO of a multi-million dollar company and gave the same presentation - you would probably have better success. Why? Because the CEO of a multi-million dollar company isn't just trying to keep the electricity on - he's trying to own the electric company.

Grab Your Microscope to Watch this Fight!

Kapow! Bam! Slam!

"Ding" the bell rings and the two sweaty fighters take their seats in the corner. The crowd sits on the edge of their seats with their microscopes watching these two bacteria battle it out.

So - what is up with spraying bacteria all over your house? Sounds a little stupid actually. Why would someone want to subject their food surfaces to bacteria when most anal Americans are running around with their little bleach wipes trying to kill everything in site?

It seems it isn't a new concept and is already being used in many hospitals across the world. Why? Because the scientific and medical communities went ballistic with bleach, antibiotics, and sanitizers that killed off all the bugs - only to find they created a whole new weapon to battle... SUPERBUGS.

And these little buggers just won't die.

"The calculation involves 35.2 million people hospitalized in the U.S. in 2005, the latest year for which information is available. Applying the prevalence rates in the new study, the data suggest that 1.2 million hospital patients are afflicted with MRSA each year and that an additional 423,000 patients are colonized with the superbug."
